book

Hi Jen, after reading your book review on the moly exchange site, I went to have a look....what an inspiring book... the sarajevo Haggadah images are gorgeous....inspiring :-)
I also found this, a more contemporary one  using papercuts....so much food for thought. I really fancy trying some papercuts in our books....

papercuts and 'bubbles' our books are going to be deliciously thick :-)

Oh gorgeous! "The People of the Book" is a heartbreakingly good read.

I was actually thinking I may shift from the watercolor moly to a 5 x 5" sketchbook that you used for some personal work or the 5 x 8" watercolor moly. The pocket landscape moly seems so small. Is the mailing expense too much?

I love the idea of papercuts. I am also including cut out "windows" with fiber work included behind the holes. These books are going to be great!

Ok....I haven't got my small watercolour book yet....is it very small?
between the 2 of us, posting after a 2 page addition to fill a book...I estimate that my postage costs will be about £35 ($56 approx)..thats not including the price of the book....and the cost will go up as the book gets heavier.... of course thats about the same as doing 5 or 6 books in any other exchange, its just that I am in so many the cost is really mounting up :-(
I have got a japanese fold.....same postage as the small water colour....now that I have ordered the small I really don't think I can pay for another large book....
oh dear this all sounds so mean spirited especially as its not your problem....

we can of course adjust how we work in the book.....perhaps filling in pages ahead of ourselves, perhaps doing 3 spread at a time... we will have to think about it......

Okay, we'll stick with the molys, no worries. When you get the small watercolor, see what you think and then we can decide between that and the japanese fold.

We could also do random additions. I could add a "window on one page and then you or I could come back and finish the rest on a later round. Something like that.

yes...there are no rules are there....we can go wild inventing our own approach to it all.....my watercolour moly should be here by monday....I will have a think....
have a good weekend Jenn :-)

Hi Jen my watercolour moly arrived today ( it took ages !! ).....I like the size and format but...... there are perforations which are really quite strong and I think after a few visits to the USA pages would start to fall out....drat :-(

Shall we go for japanese fold? we can get just as adventurous with cuttings and piercings, and I think probably integrating the images will be easier too.....

I am off on holiday now for a week I will check back with you when I get back, see what you think
have a good weekend :-)

That's what I thought too. And the perforations would be so obvious in the art. I'm happy with the Japanese fold so 1) there's a back side of the pages, and 2) our work will flow.

Have a good week! I'll be off for 2 weeks in august, myself.

Hi, I'm back from my break now and can start to think about our exchange..........

how do you feel about doing some sort of additions all through the book to start with, we are doing this in exchange 71 and it sort of addresses the white page fear + it gives us something to work against when we make our additions......or, and this is a real experiment, we could make additions throughout our own book send it off. The next person 'reacts' to those additions ( all through the book if inspired to do so) and then so on.....it would mean we would work over and around each others entries, risky ,adventurous, and exciting and we can call a stop at any point if we feel the book is full and in danger of exploding.

This is the problem with holidays , it gives me time to think, and I get desperate to start work again :-) What ideas have you had? Have you had your own holidays yet?

HI Lynne -

I'm back as of yesterday. I haven't thought much about our exchange specifically, but had an art-filled vacation so I hope that will spill over into the moly exchanges. I like the idea of adding a few different spots to start with and really intermingling our work. Shall we set a mailing date some time in September?

yes lets start to work on our books !! How does the first weekend in Sept sound?
I am going to start on my book this weekend......I think it will probably start with an animal theme but after that I will be happy to see where it goes.....I'm looking forward to this :-)
